Since the 1980s, generations of Stevenage families have trusted us with their smiles. Dr Alan de Vos took over the practice in 2005 and has led a small, family-run team ever since — the kind of practice where the receptionist still knows your name and your dentist remembers your story.

Bowling Green Dental Surgery has been providing high-quality private dental care to the people of Stevenage since the 1980s. Dr Alan de Vos acquired the practice in 2005 and has been principal dentist and owner ever since. We are a fully independent practice, which means our only priority is the wellbeing of our patients — not corporate targets.
Based in the historic Old Town area of Stevenage, we offer a complete range of general and cosmetic dental services, from routine examinations and hygiene appointments to advanced treatments such as dental implants, CEREC crowns and cosmetic smile makeovers.

Dr Alan de Vos studied dentistry at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, qualifying with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1995. From the outset, he developed a special interest in cosmetic dentistry and implantology — passions that have defined his career ever since.
Following qualification, Alan began his career working as an associate dentist alongside dental specialists, gaining hands-on experience in oral surgery, implantology, prosthetics, periodontics and endodontics. This breadth of clinical exposure gave him a comprehensive foundation that distinguishes him from many general practitioners.
In 1997, Alan became the principal dentist and owner of a private practice in the prestigious area of Sandton, Johannesburg— one of South Africa's most affluent suburbs. His surgery became known for high-quality aesthetic dentistry, developing a following that included television and sporting personalities.
In 2001, Alan and his family relocated to the United Kingdom. He worked as an associate in several Central London practices before acquiring Bowling Green Dental Surgery in Old Town, Stevenage — where he has been principal dentist and owner ever since.
Facial Aesthetics — Trained by Professor Bob Khanna
In 2003, Alan trained in Facial Aesthetic Techniques under the guidance of Professor Bob Khanna — the world-renowned expert in facial aesthetics. He undertook further advanced training with Professor Khanna in 2013, ensuring his technique remains at the forefront of the field.
Alan has been placing and restoring dental implants for over 15 years, accumulating extensive clinical experience across hundreds of cases. He completed the world-renowned FGDP course for dental implants and undertakes annual CPD (Continuing Professional Development) courses each year to stay current with the latest techniques and treatments.
Outside the surgery, Alan's commitment to his patients' outcomes drives him to continually introduce the latest techniques. His philosophy is simple: thorough, honest dentistry that genuinely improves people's lives— whether that's a routine check-up or a complete smile transformation.

A small, close-knit team who genuinely care about every patient. Many of our patients have been with us for decades — and that says everything.
Qualifying BDS from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in 1995, Alan began his career working alongside specialists in oral surgery, implantology, prosthetics, periodontics and endodontics. In 1997 he became principal dentist of a prestigious practice in Sandton, Johannesburg — where his clientele included television and sporting personalities. He relocated to the UK in 2001, worked in Central London practices, then acquired Bowling Green Dental Surgery in 2005. Trained in facial aesthetics by the world-renowned Professor Bob Khanna (2003 and 2013), Alan has been placing and restoring implants for over 15 years and has completed the world-renowned FGDP course for dental implants.
Samantha has over 20 years of dental nursing experience and brings calm, professional expertise to every appointment. Her reassuring chairside manner puts patients at ease and ensures every visit runs smoothly. Samantha is GDC registered and committed to the highest standards of patient care.
After serving as Dr de Vos's dental nurse for 22 years, Sandra has taken on a new role as part-time receptionist. Our friendly face on a Tuesday and Thursday — if you've visited us, you'll know Sandra's warm welcome makes every patient feel right at home.
Glennis has been the backbone of Bowling Green Dental Surgery since Dr Alan acquired the practice in 2005. As practice manager and Alan's mother, she keeps the practice running smoothly behind the scenes — and has been integral to building the warm, family atmosphere the practice is known for.
A Truly Family Practice
Bowling Green Dental is a family practice in the truest sense — Dr Alan de Vos acquired the practice in 2005 and has been joined by his mother Glennis ever since. The practice itself has been serving Old Town, Stevenage since the 1980s. Many of our patients first came to us as children and now bring their own families. We think that speaks for itself.
